The building was owned by Roy Sweet's father, Ferris, was a blacksmith in Marshall. Years later Roy had a welding shop at the same location. In 1968 the VFW purchased the property and the property to the south. This was the original VFW building. During the 2020 remodel members discovered the original wall, therefore the mural depicts the rich history of this location and the VFW.
